Rachel Hawley Kelly (‘MPA ’09) was voted as one of Triad Business Journal’s 40 under 40! Rachel is the Director of Public Policy for the City of Burlington.
Sarah McGuire (MPA’14) was selected as a Founder’s Fellow by the national American Society for Public Administration (ASPA). This competitive award provides her with a free ASPA conference in March and mentoring with a key ASPA leader. Currently serving on the local Piedmont Triad chapter board, Sarah works as the Community Outreach Specialist for Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART).
Joshua Sherrick (MPA ’15) was recently selected as a Rising Star by the national American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) due to his leadership as President of the Piedmont Triad Chapter. He is the City of Greensboro’s Arts and Events Superintendent. He has been one of the key, behind-the-scenes folks making the National Folk Festival a big success for Greensboro for the past three years. The festival has become the largest public event the City hosts.

HRN_films-poster2-F2017Dr. Hunter Bacot joins the Political Science Department
Professor Hunter Bacot joins the UNCG Political Science Department after serving for five years as the Director of the Institute of Government at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. Professor Bacot had previously been a faculty member at both UNC-Charlotte and Elon University, where he directed the Elon University Poll. His research focuses on public administration, local governance, and public policy. An active scholar of collaborative and community-engaged research, he is currently completing a study of comparative state environmental policy and politics, entitled, “Developing Regulatory Performance Indices to Assess Devolution of Environmental Policies in the U.S. States.” He will be assuming the position of Political Science Department Graduate Director in the fall of 2018, directing the MPA program and the two graduate certificate programs–nonprofit management and urban and economic development.

PSC 300, Congress in the Washington Context, course met during the first summer session of 2017 in Washington, DC. Students who took the class met with congressional staffers, lobbyists, members of the executive branch, and journalists. They also discussed policy and politics with members of the North Carolina congressional delegation.
